Thank you Australia!

After two wonderful month of travelling through Australia

and visiting 4 RV-10 builders we are back.

That was roughly our trip:

Zurich - Singapore - Melbourne - Kangaroo Island - Adelaide - Cairns - Sydney - Alice Springs - Ayers Rock - Melbourne -Singapore - Zurich

19.10.07

Progress:

  • fuel and oil hoses installed
  • exhaust system installed
  • fairings installed on the HS, VS and rudder
  • Propeller ordered
  • EFIS & EM ordered
10.10.07

Now that the plane has its engine and stands on its own wheels the latest progress seems to be small but its just another couple steps to get closer to flying :-)

Progress:

  • doors glued and installed
  • left wheel pant started
  • wing attachment angles
  • finalized interior design
26.09.07

Now I come to the point where I need to finalize my panel in order to cut the necessary holes in the sub panel.

Progress:

  • Brake lines completed
  • Aluminium parts of baffeling completed
  • Left door shells glued

    21.09.07

My RV-10 has its own engine now

The engine is mounted and I had several visitors in my workshop.

    Progress:

    • Engine is mounted
    • Currently working on the baffeling
      18.09.07

My RV-10 stands on its own wheels now

I enjoyed a wonderful weekend and prepared the workshop for my parents who visited me. The engine got delivered as well and will be installed soon.

      Progress:

      • Tempennage temporarily attached
      • Landing gear and wheels mounted

        12.09.07

Its all gray now inside :-)

After filling the gap between the cabin top and the fuselage with epoxy I painted the interior with a gray color. It came out quite good but there will be some rework to be done.

        Progress:

        • The engine mount is attached to the firewall.
        • Heat barrier glued to the firewall
        • Copilot CH Stick is installed
        • Fuel lines are installed
        • Andair fuel valve assembly is installed
        7.09.07

Good news. I got the permission to use the TMX-IO 540 Engine and ordered it now. Also some progress in the workshop.

        Progress:

        • Doors trimmed and ready for glueing
        • Fuel valve assembly ready for mounting
        • Gordon COO of Mistral-Engines visited my workshop
        3.09.07

Another great week has been acomplished. I spend some time constructing several parts/assemblies on CAD.

        Progress:

        • finished trimming the heat barrier mat
        • trimmed the front window
        • trimmed the left outer door shell

This week end we visited BEX 07 Airshow a very impressive display of famous international formation teams like Red Arrows, Patrouille de France, Patrouille Suisse, Breitling Jet Team....

However one of the most impressive displays was Christian Moullec who flys with an ultralight and his geese and cranes.

        28.08.07

I worked on different things since the last update because I need to to get the sequence of activities right.

        The highlights were:

        • Chris visited my workshop
        • Center console arrived (thanks to Henkjan,NL)
        • Firewall forward Kit (FWF) arrived
        • Control stick mounted
        • Engine-mount temporarily attached
        20.08.07

I couldn't resist to temporarily mount the pilot seat and making plane noises in my workshop ;-)
        15.08.07

This was the dustiest day during the entire project but its not over yet. I spend half the day trimming and sanding the cabin top.
        14.08.07

Now I started with the "scariest" part of the building process, at least that's what I heard everywhere.....the composit cabin top. The point is that you need to cut the cabin top to size and it it is a very very dusty work.
        11.08.07

The inside of the fuselage is almost done. I temporarily installed all the covers. However I am waiting for my center console and then I'll be able to proceed with the fuel system installation.
        5.08.07

Back in the workshop I finished the baggage area and floor panels. I also reviewed my antenna cabeling and decided to install conduits instead.
        3.08.07

I am back from Oshkosh and found some time to upload the photos of the last two days since my laptop ran out of disc space.
        26.07.07

Ok, my feet start to hurt from all the running around. But there are still a couple of things to look at. Today the C-17 did a flying demonstration and the F-22 did a flyby, not to forget the U-2 which is parked now on AeroShell Square. Today we started to look at engine manufacturers and closed the EFIS company with GRT.
        25.07.07

Today we focused on the exhibition halls and especially on EFIS and avionics. We just managed to get through 2 1/2 halls.
        24.07.07

The very next monday I flew to the EAA Airventure in Oshkosh (WI) USA. That is the worlds' largest aviation celebration. I#ll try to upload my impressions every day.
        22.07.07

We returned from our flying trip through Austria, Croatia and Germany. We have so many impressions and pictures that it will take some time to prepare a webalbum. We also spend the weekend in Tannheim (Tannkosh) Europes biggest Fly-In.
        12.07.07

I am doing a couple thing in paralell right now since I need to close the baggage floors I need to make sure that all wires and the static air tubes are there. I also installed the doubler plate for my COM antenna.

        07.07.07

The tailcone is riveted to the fuselage. Thanks you Fabian for bucking and shooting those rivets. This part has been truely a two persons job.

        28.6.07

        A very special update today!

I mounted the empennage to the fuselage. It starts to look more and more like an airplane. I also assembled the elevator trim and riveted the front floor panels.

        25.6.07
Today I started with the sound damping of the fuselage and attached the elevators to the horizontal stabilizer. The push rod for the elevator is ready for priming.

        21.6.07
Alot happened since the last update. I moved the wings in the upper area of my workshop to have more room for the fuselage after I have primed it. Since I am waiting for the sound damping material to be delivered I started with the empennage attach which means to install temporarily the horizontal and vertical stabilizer to the tailcone. Last monday I visited the other RV-10 builder in Switzerland Lorenz Malmström.

        12.6.07
I completed the right wing and started to work on the fuselage

        6.6.07
The wingtips are almost done. Wiring completed for

        Position Lights

        Landing lights

        VOR Antennas

        Pitot

        AOA ports are installed.

        What is AOA?

        4.6.07
I worked on the left wingtip and position-/ strobe light assembly
        31.5.07
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. by Mark Twain.
        30.5.07
We were restoring a sideboard that I found.

Well now its time to work on the plane again.

        27.4.07
I wasn´t really able to work much on the plane. I am working on the electrical system layout and the required / desired avionics.
        18.4.07
The Finishing Kit arrived today. I managed to unpack everything and took the crate apart. Now inventory is next.
        17.4.07
The weather is just too beautiful to stay in the workshop since we had yesterday a day off we took a flight to Salzburg / Austria
        12.4.07
Lots of news. I returned from 2 weeks vacation. And the fuselage kit got delivered today.
        9.03.07
I installed the right wingtip position and strobe light. It so bright! It´s LED powered and Jeff Bordelon made it for me.
        25.02.07
Right wingtip matchdrilled and nutplates riveted.
        22.02.07

Jeff Bordelons LED position lights arrived.

        17.02.07
Flap and aileron installed on right wing. I also inserted the conduit and guided the cable for the autopilot roll servo through it.

Thanks Kelly for helping me to get the wing back into the cradle.

        16.02.07
        Aileron actuation installed
        11.02.07
I mounted the GA-1000 heated Pitot tube*

*(that measures the dynamic airpressure and will get translated into speed in the air speed indicator)

        4.02.07
The landing light assembly is completed
        1.02.07
I made quite some progress today.

        Aileron trim assembled

Landinglight hole cut into the right wing.

        27.01.07
Gap fairings riveted to right wing. Thanks to my wife who helped me riveting.
        26.01.07
Stall Warning is installed and I primed the gap fairings .
        20.01.07
I started to work on the aileron actuation and the Autopilot servos installation.
        15.01.07
Bottom wing skins match drilled and dipled
        14.01.07
We had great weather on saturday so I took the chance to go flying along the beautiful Swiss alps.
        08.01.07
Today I assembled the fuel level senders for both wings. I am now waiting for some deliverys from the US, like my Pitot, Autopilot servos and wingtip LED position lights.
        06.01.07
        Happy New Year!!!

after my Chrismas break I am back and finally started to do some work on the wings. I had to remove the fueltank from the left wing and started to intall the stall warning.

        19.12.06
The wings are in the cradle (thanks to Christof) and the center section is ready to be shipped back to Vans.
        15.12.06
The wing cradle is almost done.
        10.12.06
I started today to build the wing cradle which will hold the wings.
        08.12.06
Today I only lifted with the help of a friend (thanks to Fabian) the wings out of he crate. I am now desperatly in need of the wing stand.
        06.12.06
This is the last entry for this gallery and I will open a new one for the wings kit
